Anthony Rebyanski is in his second year as the Butler BlueSox's skipper. The 2011 BlueSox finished with a record of 25-29--2.5 games out of first place. Five players were selected to represent Butler in the 2011 Prospect League All-Star game and three pitchers ranked in the top six in the league's overall earned run average. Rebyanski's coaching career began at Indiana (PA) High School where he served as an assistant and pitching coach in the spring of 2006. Rebyanski has also coached at Indiana University of Pennsylvania since August 2006, where he was promoted to assistant head coach by manager Jeff Ditch in 2009. During summer 2010, Rebyanski spent time in Thomasville, North Carolina as an assistant coach with the Thomasville HiToms of the Coastal Plain League. While coaching at IUP, the Crimson Hawks have appeared in three post-seasons. IUP was crowned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division champions in 2010 and in 2011 appeared in the PSAC conference tournament championship game. A graduate of Indiana (PA) High School, Rebyanski pitched at IUP from 2002 to 2005. He was honored as the PSAC West Rookie of the Year and his name appears throughout the school’s record book, including fourth in career strikeouts with 163 and tied for third with 30 starts. During his senior year at IUP, Rebyanski was given the opportunity to play the outfield as well as hit for the Indians, finishing his senior season with a .339 average, 12 runs scored, two doubles and four home runs. His professional career began in 2005, when he was drafted in the first round by the Gateway Grizzlies of the Independent Frontier League. He pitched two seasons with the Grizzlies before being traded to the Windy City Thunderbolts in May 2007. While pitching for the Thunderbolts, he was named to the 2007 Frontier League North All-Star team and helped his team win two consecutive league championships.
Adam Jury is a former Butler BlueSox and Slippery Rock University infielder. During the summers of 2008 and 2009, Jury served as the hitting and defense coach for the Bigler Senior League teams in Bigler, PA, where he helped both teams reach the playoffs. Jury played four years at Slippery Rock from 2008 through 2011. He finished his career with a .335 average, 109 runs, 29 doubles, two triples, 12 homeruns, and 125 runs batted in as the Rock’s shortstop and third baseman. In 2010, he earned Second Team All-PSAC accolades for his play and was also voted a team captain the following year. Jury was a part of a Slippery Rock team that made the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament all four years he was on roster. As a BlueSox’s player in 2010, Jury compiled a .257 average, with 22 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple, one home run, 24 RBIs, and five stolen bases. Jury also played with the Allegheny Athletics of the Tri-State Collegiate League in summer 2009.
Justin Thomas was a pitcher for the Slippery Rock Sliders and at Slippery Rock University. Thomas has been a volunteer coach in the Ambridge Area during the summers from 2006 to 2010. In 2008 and 2010 he helped coach the Ambridge 15 and 16 year old teams. In spring 2011, he was named assistant coach at his alma mater, Ambridge High School. After the conclusion of the 2011 spring high school season, Thomas went south to be an assistant with the Tradewater Pirates in the Ohio Valley Collegiate Summer League. The Ambridge High School graduate attended Austin Community College in 2005-2006 before joining the SRU pitching staff. Thomas finished his career at Slippery Rock with earned run average of 4.50 while appearing out of the bullpen in 44 games. He threw 72 innings and accumulated two saves, striking out 64 batters. With the Prospect League’s Sliders he went 0-3 with 14 strikeouts over 17 innings pitched.
A product of North Allegheny High School and who is currently finishing his senior season at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Dylan Songer serves as the BlueSox’s bench coach and bullpen catcher. Songer played with the Allegheny Athletics of the Tri-State Collegiate League during summer 2011. There he finished with a .373 average, 12 doubles and 25 runs batted in. In three years at IUP, Songer has a career average of .274 with 30 runs scored, 16 doubles, two home runs, and 48 RBIs. Songer is currently finishing his degree at IUP in psychology, he plans to stay involved in athletics and work as a sports psychologist. |
