Prospect League History Formed out of the Central Illinois Collegiate League
(CICL)
in 2009, the Prospect League is committed to creating and maintaining the best collegiate wooden bat summer league in the country.
Frontier Professional League associates including Dr. Chris Hanners, founder of the Frontier League, Leo Trich Jr., and Duke
Ward are among those who worked at putting together the new collegiate league concept.
All ownership groups are committed to providing players a
positive experience, quality instruction, and a high level of competition while offering communities first class, affordable
family entertainment. The Prospect
League will continues the traditions of the CICL, upholding the standards of the National Association of Collegiate Summer
Baseball (NACSB) in ensuring the amateur status of its student athletes while preparing the players for future professional
careers. Stretching
from Missouri to Pennsylvania, the Prospect League added three new teams for their second season in 2010. The League is divided
into three five team divisions. The CICL was formed in 1963 as a charter member of the NCAA’s certified summer baseball program. Throughout
its 45 year history, the CICL has maintained a respected and prominent place in collegiate baseball. Names like Kirby Puckett,
Mike Schmidt, Jon Papelbon, & Ryan Howard are among the nearly 150 CICL alumni who went on to play Major League Baseball.

Prospect League
Taps Baseball Veteran as Commissioner . Dave Chase brings 30 plus seasons of baseball
experience to League -
March 17, 2010 Chillicothe,
OH . Prospect League President Bryan Wickline announced today that Dave Chase of Bartlett, Tennessee has been selected as the Commissioner
after an extensive national search. Chase most recently served as President/General Manager of the St.
Louis Cardinals Triple-A affiliate in the Pacific Coast League, the Memphis Redbirds. Along the way Dave
has also worked in various roles for Baseball America magazine including a stint as Publisher and President. Chase’s
professional baseball career began in 1978 as Assistant General Manager of the then Double-A Savannah Braves.
An outline of Dave’s career is presented below.
.
BlueSox Owner/GM praised the choice. "I am very happy that our league
was able to come to terms with Mr. Chase," commented Leo Trich. "He will bring a wealth of experience to that
position and I compliment the league 'commissioner search committee' for doing a great job of finding such a person,"
he concluded. . “Dave brings years of experience to the League, we are
fortunate to have attracted him to the Prospect League, said Wickline The 2009-2010 off-season has shown
tremendous growth for the League with new franchises in Nashville, Terre Haute, Beckley and DeKalb. Now,
with today’s announcement, we have completed an ambitious off-season by placing Dave at the helm," commented Wickline.
. Dave Chase the stated, “The Prospect League opportunity
allows me to continue my life-long ambition of serving the game of Baseball. Throughout my career the game
has always been number one. I’m eager to get started as we work to make the 15-member Prospect League
one of the premier college summer leagues.” I’m looking forward to working with each of our club operators, the loyal fans across the League, our umpires
and our ballplayers. We will continue to provide a quality baseball experience for the young men who work
so hard to develop their baseball skills. Of course the fans make it all happen; I look forward to hearing
from them as I visit each ballpark this summer. Together we all make the Prospect League awesome for everyone,"
said Chase. . While with Memphis, Dave and the Redbirds organization worked extensively with Major League
Baseball to create MLB’s Annual Civil Rights Game; the first two years of the CRG were played in Memphis’ AutoZone
Park. Chase was selected as Mid-South Sportsman of the Year by the Memphis Commercial Appeal in December
2006 for his work on the game. Dave was also a candidate for President of Minor League Baseball the fall
of 2007.

The Prospect League
spring meeting ended Wednesday on a number of positive notes. Last season was a success and the 2010 season is
projected to be bigger and better. "We had a great meeting in Indianapolis", commented BlueSox owner/GM Leo
Trich. "As you look around the table, you are dealing with quality baseball people with an impressive amount of
experience. New communities have joined since 2009 and more will be coming," predicted Trich. . "The [Prospect] League prides itself in providing a competitive baseball environment for the players
and great entertainment for fans of all types and all ages. The Butler BlueSox are happy to be part of this organization and
I know the Prospect League will continue to grow and develop an outstanding reputation in the years ahead," Trich concluded. ******************************** Prospect
League Championship Concept Changes for 2010 At the league meetings in Indianapolis IN, the board of directors voted to have “first half”
champs (based on the first 28 games) – and then Second half champs at the end of the season. There will then be a playoff
series at the end of the season based on both standings. This system was created because of the size of the league and the
three division concept. Other College leagues and even some of the professional minor leagues use such a system. Those who
support this effort indicate that it will keep more teams in the “hunt” for a chance a playoff berth.
Fans too should like it, in that teams can recover from what might be a slow start at the beginning of the season –
and can start fresh with a new chance at doing better in the “second half” of the season. More
information on the specific will be announced soon.
